It is a new Civic Club fiscal year, so let’s start it off strong. Our dues payments were down last year, which is understandable with everything going on. Here is a brief summary of some things that the Civic Club Board and Officers do that you may not be aware of. Board members and officers are all volunteer positions. Having a healthy civic club budget allows us to do more for you.
- Deed Restriction Enforcement
- These issues come up all the time, and while we make efforts to resolve them informally, sometimes a lawsuit is necessary.
- Attending meetings for relevant area projects
- Board members and other interested residents attending public meetings on the Lawndale Bridge replacement, IH-45 project, and District I CIP meetings to stay informed and communicate to the neighborhood about projects that will have an impact on our lives.
- Interfacing with City, County, and State officials and their contractors
- …to maintain public structures in our neighborhood, such as park equipment, FEMA lots, and hike and bike trail issues.
- Organizing community-based events
- … like National Night Out, Holiday Party, and Spring Spurlock Cleanup; representing neighborhood in larger community events like Bayou Greenway Day.
- Maintaining communication
- … via newsletter, Nextdoor, Yahoo groups, postal mail, PayPal, and occasional block-walking.
- Inviting speakers
- … to present timely topics at monthly meetings.
- Special events
- … like the hugely successful 2018 Historic Home Tour.
- Working with local government representatives and community leaders
- … to address on-going community concerns.
- Working in connection with the Garden Club
- … to make sure the planters at entrances to our neighborhood are watered and looking great.
- Working in connection with the Garden Club
- … to maintain the appeal of the Spurlock Park sign and flower bed.
And more!
None of this is possible without your support. Thank you!
