Accomplishments for 2025
The Idylwood Civic Club (ICC) continues to hold its meetings in our neighbor’s homes, resulting in continuing high attendance by residents. These meetings include both ones devoted to Committee Meetings and meetings where we interact with various outside interests and partners.
The Idylwood Civic Club has three standing committees—Social Events, Community Improvement and Deed Restrictions. The Board also created two Task Forces—one focused on our upcoming Centennial Celebration in 2028, and the other focused on improving safety in the neighborhood.
Thanks to the numerous neighbors involved in these committees and task forces, we have the following accomplishments in 2025.
- We have been holding meetings in neighbors’ homes, thanks to the generosity of our neighbors.
- Our meetings are either devoted to committee meetings or to outside speakers. Our speakers included Senator Carol Alvarado, Representative Christina Morales, Council Member Joaquin Martinez, and Law Enforcement officials after a spate of recent disturbances. We regularly hear from our neighborhood contacts, including law enforcement, elected officials, and other governmental entities.
- The Art Stairs project was completed in Spurlock Park, designed and
implemented by a neighborhood artist. We also installed a “Chalk House” to encourage our local artists in coloring the stair designs. - Neighborhood Night Out and Easter parties were held in Spurlock Park for adults and children. The ever favorite Halloween party was cancelled due to inclement weather.
- The Dog Park at Lawndale and N. McGregor was completed and formally opened with a celebration including members of our SuperNeighborhood, Barrio Dogs, Emancipet, our CM Martinez, and other local officials and supporters.
- After several incidents of speeding and shootings in the neighborhood, we filed a petition with 54 signatures for speed cushions. The speed cushions have been approved by the City of Houston and will be installed soon.
- New sidewalks have been installed on the 6700 blocks of Meadowlawn and Fairfield, as well as along Idylwood from Meadowlawn to Wildwood. New ADA ramps have been installed at all corners of Idylwood and Meadowlawn, Fairfield, and Wildwood, as well as all corners of N. McGregor and Meadowlawn, Fairfield and Wildwood.
- A neighborhood cleanup focused on street drainage clearance and bamboo removal occurred in March.
- Wine Tasting Party was hosted by the Centennial Committee to raise funds for the 2028 celebration.
- The ICC has filed an application for a grant to restore historic blue and white tiles street names into sidewalks. Many of these street name tiles have been removed during the new sidewalks and ramps, and others have fallen into disrepair. As part of our Centennial efforts, the Civic Club is looking to preserve this aspect of our historic National Register listed neighborhood.
